M3PMAMUSA’s Portfolio, Program and Project Management Architecture (M3PMA) is a scalable and flexible project management solution developed specifically for Life Sciences and Technology projects.
We take the basic four phases of project management (Initiation, Planning, Execution and Closure) and expand the delivery to seamlessly integrate GxP proficiency and Validation procedures necessary in our chosen vertical.
Using over one hundred years of successful and collective project management experience in Life Sciences, we’ve developed our M3PMA modules to scale to the largest of projects (we’ve just completed the installation and validation for all IT components for a $400 million dollar biotech manufacturing facility), to the smallest of installations (installation of a biotech security environment for four users). All while maintaining schedule and financial visibility, and while managing scope and change requests.
We’ve been testing M3PMA in multiple environments for over a year with great success and have added the methodology to our solution portfolio.
Four Phases of the M3PMA Methodology
Project Initiation
Critical to Life Science projects is the initiation or ‘Discovery’ phase of a project. Many consulting firms use project initiation to estimate revenue stream from a project, then charge premiums for massive change orders. MUSA’s philosophy for Project Initiation is very different.
Our goals for Project Initiation are to develop a detailed business case, identify GxP and validation components, build a project charter, secure executive buy-in and develop a full budget and schedule in joint development with our customers. This first phase is critical to the success of any project, whether it be a small deployment or a massive laboratory systems integration. Get it detailed, get it right and get buy-in.
Project Planning
From the detailed budget and scope developed in phase one comes the seven drill-down management plans for Procurement, Resourcing, Financial, Qaulity, Risk Avoidance, Acceptance and Communications plans. The Quality/GxP plan is also developed for full validation activities.
Project Execution
Plans are in place, detailed reporting is in place. Execution should be easy, right?
By spending time on detailed initiation and planning, the M3PMA methodology addresses 80% of ‘trouble areas’ that can and will doom a project. Execution of the plan relies not only on the path developed in the first two phases, but in flexibility and change management during the execution phase. In what we call our “Run Circle of Life,” the life cycle of a project is monitored, reported and problems are identified early enough to course-correct if necessary, while keeping the customer and project team continually in the loop. This is where our partnership philosophy excels and where delivery by the MUSA team is successful.
Project Closure
The project is up and running and the customer is happy. We can close it now, right?
The documentation requirements for Quality, Validation and GxP reporting are detailed, involved and provided for our customers by the MUSA team based on M3PMA standards and each customer’s unique needs. We also provide the maintenance plan and system lifecycle plan with estimated costs so that our customers know not only what the project cost is, but have estimates and resources in place for a full system lifecycle.
